Heart Chakra Healing & Self Care

Welcome to Part 4 of our 7 Part Chakra Self Healing Series! We've shared a lot of great info about the lower chakras so far (if you missed them, you can find Part 1 HERE, Part 2 HERE, and Part 3 HERE). Now we're moving into our upper chakras, starting with our Heart Chakra.


Our Heart Chakra resides in our chest. Being the 4th chakra, it acts as a bridge between the upper and lower chakras. Think of it as the mid point, bringing balance to the physical and the spiritual as they both meet. It is associated with:

  • -Love for yourself and others

  • -Compassion and empathy

  • -Forgiveness and acceptance

  • -Inner Transformation/Change

  • -Discernment

  • -A sense of connectedness, bringing joy and peace to your life.


Please enjoy this sound healing while reading, during meditations, journaling, bath time- or whenever you're in a quiet space. This sound healing opens your heart chakra to a loving vibrational frequency that is extremely powerful and beneficial to healing. Please note- you have to work through the yuck to reach the light. Meaning that unpleasant memories or thoughts may arise while listening. This is not to hurt you, this is to heal you. Whatever rises to the surface begs to be observed and released, not stuffed back down and hidden away. Honor this process. It gets ugly before it becomes beautiful. As always, please don't listen while driving.




I'd like to touch for a moment on empathy and discernment, as both are so vital to our everyday lives and can often become confused and manipulated- even by those in the spiritual community as of late.


Empathy is feeling compassion for another WITHOUT feeling pity for them. Empaths are known as people who can feel another's energy so deeply, that they often have a tough time distinguishing whether it's their own energy or another's. They get overwhelmed in large groups of people because of this, and tend to prefer being alone in their own energy. It takes discernment to learn the difference between your own energy and another's, and learning this discernment ensures that you don't become manipulated or energetically drained- whether by accident or on purpose.


While being an empath can be tough at first and fill you with anxiety/depression (speaking from personal experience here), once you learn this discernment and how to protect your own energetic space- it is transmuted into a beautiful gift. Empaths usually become healers of some sort, such as a reiki healer, doctor, environmentalist, social worker, etc. When you have the capacity to feel so deeply and exchange compassion in a healthy way- you have the capacity to change the world around you. Think of the saying,


"A thousand candles can be lighted from the flame of one candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness can be spread without diminishing that of yourself." -Ghandi


With discernment, you can learn who to give this energy to and who to protect your energy from. While energy is infinite and boundless- giving your energy to someone who is simply manipulating you to take advantage of your kindness can be known as an "energy vampire", because that's exactly what they do. They suck the energy out of you. This can be (as mentioned before) accidentally where they don't realize what they're doing consciously and just love your energy. OR, this can be done purposefully through manipulation and narcissistic behavior. Either way, it's vital for you to set healthy boundaries and adhere to those boundaries. (Boundaries are a HUGE lesson to be learned in 2019, and I plan on doing a separate blog post about it soon).


Signs of having your energy drained can include:


  • -Feeling exhausted after being around certain people, even if it was for a short amount of time

  • -Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or irritable around certain people.

  • -You often give more than you receive. This can be in the form of advice, a listening ear, love, etc. Anything where there is an exchange in energy. Energy exchange should be mutual.


When you're around people or in certain situations and these feelings arise, ask yourself:


  • -Are these my feelings?

  • -Where did these feelings come from?


If they are your own, realize that and make sure you don't take them out on other people (making YOU the energy vampire...check yourself)

If they are not your own, you can either remove yourself from the situation to protect your energy, or if you must be there then you can say (mentally to yourself or if you excuse yourself to the restroom for a moment) something along the lines of

"This energy is not mine, so it is not welcome within my space. I release this energy and will not allow it in"

while picturing a protective, white bubble or mist surrounding your being, rejecting any negative, outside energy from coming in.


Taking these measures and setting healthy boundaries allow for a greater sense of self love and respect. When you love and respect yourself- you open your heart to love and respect for others as well. The saying is so true and I will never stop telling people:


You cannot love another if you don't first love yourself.


Meaning you will not be able to have a successful, mutual, respectful, loving relationship with another until you first reach that with yourself. Either you will drain your partner, they will drain you, or both. Energy exchange should be positive and loving, never forced, negative, or to be taken advantage of. It sounds harsh, but it's honesty. How honest are you with yourself and others in this perspective?
